Zuqka talked to Sheila just after her birthday last week, and this is what we found out…

So it was your birthday last week. Do anything special? Paint the town red?

I had dinner with close friends. After an overwhelming surprise in the morning, I wasn’t going to have another in the evening! The AM Live team really pulled off a killer surprise, it was incredibly hard not to get emotional!

What do you think you learnt this year?

My lessons for the year have been learned the hard way but the biggest one for me was the realization that in life, none of us needs a title to be awesome. Having a title may let the world know what you are, but only you know who you are! I’m being a lot more careful with what I choose to spend my time on, as well as with whom I spend it!

What is next for Sheila? An album? TPF? Are you enjoying AM Live?

The year has only began and I am settling in to AM Live. The crew is super awesome, and Kobi the producer and co-presenter is a true professional. Musically I’m still working – very slowly though- on new music. Time is always hard to balance as I am also writing my thesis. I am trying hard to graduate this December with an M.A. in Medical Sociology.

Who’s your favourite local artiste at the moment?

There are so many new acts and it’s hard to follow all of them! That said, I enjoy P-Unit, Kidum, Khaligraph and Sage.

They say that with age comes change. What do you find has changed the most? Is the biological clock a myth? Are cougars the in thing? Or is it the girls wearing less and less that is the most shocking?

Change will come no matter what the age and I love how much I have grown. I’m not afraid to be who I am and I accept that it’s not my job to please everyone either. I’m not too clear about that biological clock thing. I think it’s a societal invention, but should it ring, you’ll be the first to know. Girls will always wear less and less and it’s a personal prerogative – besides reality TV has ensured that not much really shocks anyone anymore.

If you could invite any four people to dinner, dead or alive, who would they be?

My Dad, Oprah Winfrey, Elvis Presley and Barbara Walters. I love a good story and good music with my dinner, and my guests would be perfect!

Sheila, tell us what everyone wants to know. How old are you really?

:) As old as my tongue, a little older than my teeth. :)

“Change will come no matter what the age and I love how much I have
grown. I’m not afraid to be who I am and I accept that it’s not my job
to please everyone either.” I love this. Living by principles. Why go after other people’s definition of life yet you can make your own? Trying to please every one is mediocrity. So,”be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” (Dr. Seuss, US author & illustrator, 1904 – 1991). You have been fearfully, wonderfully and UNIQUELY made to pursue you purpose in life. You were made an original person and you have the task to make sure you do not end up as a copy of another. Never pay attention to distractions. Our redeemer has paid a great price for us. Go ahead and define it your own way. Congrats as you start another year in your life. All the best. Wish you God’s blessings.
